First Consteel EAF in Japan for Nippon Steel

With more than 75 references worldwide, Tenova’s Consteel EAF is claimed to offer high quality standards as well as an environmentally friendly approach to steel production compared to other EAF technology. The exclusive Consteel technology continuously heats and feeds metallic charge into the EAF, while simultaneously keeping gaseous emissions under control. Tenova provides sustainable solutions in metals and mining. With a workforce located in 19 countries across five continents, Tenova designs technologies and develops services that help companies save energy, limit environmental impact and improve working conditions. Tenova SpA www.tenova.com

TENOVA, a specialist in solutions for the metals and mining industries, has been awarded a contract for the supply of a Consteel® EAF (electric arc furnace) for Nippon Steel Corporation.

The new Consteel EAF will be the first for the Nippon Steel Group in Japan, and will be installed at its Hirohata works.

Production is targeted to start in the first half of the 2022 financial year.

“With this new installation, Hirohata plant will save about 400,000 tons per year of CO 2 emissions,” said Mario Marcozzi, Tenova sales director for electric arc and ladle furnaces.

“Moreover, this project consolidates Tenova’s presence in the important Asian market.”

WITH effect from 1 January, Pelican Holdings Group, Inc has changed its name to Wire Experts Group, Inc, as the new parent company of Pelican Wire, Rubadue Wire and Precision Resistance Technologies. “This updated brand for our company better captures the intent to be the solution provider for wire and cable products for our customers,” stated Ted Bill, CEO of Wire Experts Group. “Pelican Wire and Rubadue Wire will continue to be our go-to-market brands; however, this new corporate brand will be our guide as we look to grow our business organically and through acquisition. We wanted a strong overall brand that speaks to our experience and expertise.” While customers and most suppliers will continue to do business with the Pelican Wire and Rubadue Wire business units as normal, there will be occasional co-branding placement, such as to emphasise the strength of each business unit as part of a larger team. “One of our goals is to create a platform, a template for doing business, that allows us to take advantage of the best throughout our company and add new businesses quickly when the opportunity arises,” said Mr Bill. “The phrase I’ve adopted is ‘we are making one plus one equal three’.”

During the visit, Ms Leibinger, along with sales managers Alexander Deuchert and Tim Richards, took the opportunity to congratulate the Teknosin team and to present gifts and a certificate of appreciation. Idil Yagli, the managing director of Teknosin, who is in the second generation of the family business with her father Zeki Bülent Yagli, is optimistic about the coming months. Turkish companies are said to appreciate the quality and reliability of Leibinger inkjet printers, and Teknosin already counts well-known food and beverage manufacturers and international industrial companies among its customers. FOR almost 20 years, Teknosin has been selling industrial CIJ printers from the German company Leibinger throughout Turkey. Teknosin recently moved into new premises in Istanbul, which will allow it to improve its internal operations and customer service. Leibinger managing director Christina Leibinger and her team dropped by for a celebration. For a family business with idealistic values such as Leibinger, the business relationship with Teknosin presents an ideal picture: “Sales of the Leibinger printers in Turkey are increasing significantly each year, and Teknosin’s customer service is excellent,” reported Ms Leibinger. “Another thing that inspires us is the interpersonal basis, which couldn’t be better between our companies. I associate words such as trust, honesty, commitment, professionalism, inspiration and friendship with Teknosin.” The new offices are located in the Perpa Trade Center in Istanbul. Teknosin previously had offices in the centre, but they were not centrally located. Now all the offices, the storage facility and the service centre are connected, which

UT phased-array upgrade programme for Rowa and BIS users

MAC will supply user-friendly operator interface controls. Test results are displayed as B and C scans. Zetec Inc will provide the phased-array electronics and underlying software. Zetec’s QuartZ phased-array ultrasonic testing (PAUT) instrument is designed to meet the requirements of complex and high-speed inspections in harsh industrial environments. The combination of UltraVision® software with QuartZ scalability and robustness offers a solution for creating custom inspections in a seamlessly integrated package. Sensor Networks, Inc (SNI) will provide transducers, including custom designs for specific applications. Variables such as frequency, number of elements, mechanical packaging, cable and connector styles can be replicated. SNI will work with MAC to develop an enhanced programme for rebuilt or spare transducers. SNI specialises in the design and manufacture of both conventional and phased-array ultrasonic transducers. Its engineers and production personnel have decades of experience with transducers used in the demanding environment of the factory floor, QC, inspection and testing. Magnetic Analysis Corp www.mac-ndt.com

THREE NDT companies – Magnetic Analysis Corp (MAC), Sensor Networks Inc and Zetec – have joined forces to offer the ZMS programme, a single alternative for bar and tube producers needing to service and upgrade their phased-array systems, such as Rowa and BIS for detecting flaw/wall thickness/geometry and lamination. With an emphasis on providing customers with fast service for reliable UT array transducers and electronics, along with repair, maintenance and spare parts, the three companies, working together with one point of contact, can bring existing test systems up to the latest standards, with the aim of improving inspection throughput speeds and enhancing defect probability of detection. MAC will be the sole point of contact for customers, serving as the prime contractor, system integrator and service provider. MAC is a global company and has been designing and manufacturing NDT instruments and systems for metal producers for more than 90 years. With experienced field engineers and representatives based throughout the USA and worldwide, the company has an in-depth understanding of bar and tube producers’ requirements for integrating inspection instruments and production mechanics to meet demanding specifications.
