in the wire and cable industry. The company’s gauges use the convection method to precisely measure wire and cable temperature independently of the material, the emission grade, surface structure, re ections and glossiness. The Lune system is precise and accurate on copper, steel, aluminium and other metals. Use with plastic, PTFE and other materials is also possible, including bre optics. The device does not require calibration or other special preparation to accurately determine the material’s temperature. A typical task is to control a pre-heater to guarantee the perfect wire temperature for extrusion. The Lune measurement gauge is usually placed directly in front of the extruder, so that the loss of temperature on the way between preheater and extruder can be compensated. Some manufacturers o er preheaters with integrated temperature measure- ment. These systems measure in or directly at the preheater, and therefore do not consider this temperature loss, which can be as high as 10 to 30° or more. These gauges are also usually based on the infrared method (IR), which works well for many applications but not on blank metals. Measuring the temperature of blank metals with IR can

lead to failure, and variances of 50 per cent or more are not uncommon. Lune recently launched a new eco system with a more e cient design. The company has also introduced a trade-in programme, bene ting owners of older Luxtron or Ircon temperature gauges who are planning to replace these systems. Lune CHF GmbH www.lune-chf.com

Madem-Moorecraft has completed the installation of a new, fully automatic production line for nailed wooden reels. The new line uses the latest technology for automated CNC machines and the company’s proprietary ink jet printing system. The investment will increase annual sales capacity for the company to $35mn. Additionally, Madem-Moorecraft will potentially serve more than 25 cable manufacturers in the North American market. According to Steve Redhage, VP sales, “We are striving to produce the highest quality product with impressive consistency.
