New features for BendingStudio software THE software platform AICON

If customers purchase a licence for BendingStudio Start and the CAD Wizard module, they can extract tube geometries from IGES or STEP data at their workstation, and use CAD Wizard with any third-party measuring system. The AICON BendingStudio software platform connects all data and processes around the production of bent parts, from production and process planning to manufacturing and quality control. separately captured, and the results are automatically linked. The new feature saves time, as no mounting of adapters is required. Operation is user-friendly and the results are accurate. The CAD Wizard feature has also been updated. It is available as a stand-alone application, opening new possibilities for customers working with non-AICON measuring systems. Using CAD files, production planners extract tube geometry and relevant bending data. However, if a company has no design department or even CAD system, this can be a challenge. CAD Wizard allows the user to create bending elements for a bending machine from a component’s CAD data in IGES or STEP. Complex data files can be processed, and bending data is easily and reliably extracted. The program guides the user through the entire process, step by step.

BendingStudio is continuously being improved and optimised. For the new version 4, the developers have made major enhancements that facilitate daily work for users and optimise their workflow. In the updated version, AICON BendingStudio allows the measurement of end formings without applying a special adapter. The new function is integrated into the Assembly module. In an additional measurement step, the outline of the formed tube ending is captured, and subsequently the exact end position of the tube can be measured. The end forming must be rotationally symmetrical. The user defines the end forming as a component in the inspection plan once. During measurement, the tube and the end forming are

In-line brushing machines for large tubes FORTY years of activity in the manufacture of machines for metal surface finishing marks an important milestone for Bossi.

height adjustment in order to fit any type of tube mill, both with fixed tube bottom and fixed tube centre. The systems are already in compliance with the requirements of Industry 4.0. For this project the company invested heavily in research and development, as it noticed that major tube manufacturers are moving towards larger diameters and sections, produced with increasingly high-performance tube mills at considerable speeds. For these reasons, Bossi developed a range of brushing machines, both for round and square tubes, able to brush diameters up to 12" and square or rectangular sections up to 300x300mm.

After designing and manufacturing a brushing machine with double rotary drum, to be installed in-line on a tube mill with laser welding system for stainless steel tubes with a maximum diameter of 12", the company raised the difficulty level by realising two machines that, in addition to satisfying the qualitative performance of the result and the maximum diameter, are able to move orthogonally with respect to the working axis during the brushing phase. This allows the operator to correct possible shifts of the working axis and always ensures a uniform brushing. Considering the 12,000kg weight of the machine and the mass put in centrifugal rotation, this is not insignificant.
