goals for the Windak and Axjo collaboration during 2017. Together with partner Axjo, a supplier of spools in Europe, Windak invented a new spooling solution: Axjo’s Multipac spools and Windak’s automatic spool assembly machine MP450_3.0. Axjo AB: “For a number of years, we have seen and heard from our customers about the huge interest in saving space during transport. This has resulted in a whole series of innovative products and solutions.” Axjo’s Multipac spool is divided in the middle and has a slightly conical barrel. This allows each half of the spool to be stacked, meaning that up to three times as many spools can be loaded onto a trailer.

íí and surface measurement, advanced reporting, and basic system control. Samples that were previously difficult to view can be measured more accurately with a new HD video camera with video edge detection (VED), and fully dimmable stage illumination. Measuring stages of 200mm x 100mm and 150mm x 100mm provide up to 5μm accuracy, and offer a choice of either a robust QC3000 controller/microprocessor or easy to use PC software offering flexibility and small footprints. The Swift Pro Duo video measuring system incorporates an ergonomic measuring microscope. Combined video and microscope technologies allow for seamless switching between video and microscope measurement. The patented optical viewer offers high resolution surface inspection. Swift Pro Cam is an entry-level video measuring and inspection system. With its HD video camera and large measuring stage the Swift Pro Cam system operator can simply “place and measure” a wide range of precision parts. Swift Pro Elite is a simple optical measuring microscope providing accurate measure- ment even for notoriously difficult subjects such as black or transparent plastics. A patented optical viewer (head) clearly defines edges and offers high resolution and true-colour images. Swift Pro Elite employs a high stability stand with a precision engineered bearing assembly to optimise X, Y measurements at different plane heights. WTM Stand: 11D78

WTM’s core business is the design and supply of machines for the production of high quality cables, in particular cables for the aeronautic industry, and high frequency data cables used in aerospace and cloud technology. The company has improved the performance of its high speed taping heads with an updated design that provides accurate tension control, even for flat cables, and using materials and technological solutions specific to the aeronautic industry. The same care has been paid to the precise cable tension control on take-up and payoff systems that work with a feedback signal and without the use of dancers (thus without any cable bending), with the aim of preserving cable quality.

❍ Multipac spools from Axjo

Windak’s new Multipac automatic spool assembly machine MP450_3.0 produces three spools per minute and is suitable for spools of 400mm and 600mm in diameter, and 300mm and 450mm in width. The MP450_3.0 automatically assembles the Multipac spools and loads them into the spooler, eliminating manual depalletising and loading of spools into the machine. Combining it with one of the AR series spooling machines gives high performance, European quality and production efficiency in one line. The Windak/Axjo solution offers: • Savings of 15-25 per cent on freight expenses • Three times more spools loaded on the truck • Savings on personnel costs • Less storage space needed at the facility • An environment-friendly solution The new Multipac spools and spool assembly machine MP450_3.0 will be presented at wire 2018, together with Windak’s AR18 spooling machine. The auto reeler A18 is a dual head, fully automatic reeler developed for automatic packaging of cable and wire products on reels between 216 and 460mm (8.5" to 18") in overall diameter. It can be run either in-line (with an extruder) or off-line (with a driven payoff or flyer), and loads and unloads the reels automatically. It will also stretch wrap the reel to contain the cut end.

At wire 2018 WTM will display a machine that includes all these features. The taping line will be composed of self-aligning and self-levelling take-up and payoff units (avoiding any torsion or bending on the cable) and two wrapping units, the first for twin-axial cable spiralling and the second for aeronautic cables taping. The machine is completed with a supervision system provided by three laser gauges and two cameras, coordinated by a real-time monitoring system that supplies a statistical analysis of the full process. Visitors can see this machine in operation, meet WTM staff, and discuss their specific production requirements. There will also be the opportunity to learn more about the entire WTM production range of taping equipment, twisting lines and curing systems for cable production.
