products, but it has also developed – with customers and suppliers – other equipment to resolve common problems that are created along the wire and cable production chain. Some solutions, such as the gripper for handling of coils and bobbins, allow savings in terms of time; others, like the strapping rubber tube involved in the final stage of the manufacturing process, help to prevent damage to the finished product. The company will be promoting five models of in-line drawing line for the fasteners industry (from 12 to 35mm); a new battery straightener – up to 32mm; a new wire butt welding machine range for diameters up to 32mm; a new vertical welding machine; clamps for coil and bobbin lifting up to 4 t; and unwinders and tilting machines for wire rod. Tramev Srl www.tramev.com 10 F60 The Troester Group is a manufacturer of complete extrusion systems and compounding solutions for the cable industry. The company will present its extrusion equipment for the production of low, medium, high and extra-high voltage cables, comprising CCV and VCV lines for underground and submarine cables, insulation and sheathing lines, single machines and components for cable production. A new automatic press machine with a pressing force of 120 tons was installed at the Koner plant at the end of 2023, to produce hard metal products up to an external diameter of 120mm. Innovations that will be presented at wire 2024 will include “dust free” Tecnovo calcium soaps – the result of years of research, for the steel wire drawing market; and an evolution in the formulation of Tecnovo “green” emulsifiable oils, through new additives that improve the wet drawing process in terms of lubrication and drawing performance. The group will also be promoting the production of various types of drawing dies and custom-designed parts by sophisticated micro-grains with zero porosity and higher density and hardness values; a wide range of round and shaped dies, which can be supplied in solid hard metal or coated with special Koner treatments to enhance their durability characteristics; and the D-lab instrument for measuring the diameter and ovality of dies, now with a larger touchscreen. Visitors to the stand will also find information about the K.80 system for die regrinding and polishing operations; the Ecoclean®/Ecowipe® machine for wire and wire rod cleaning; a new butt welder machine; wiping pads for galvanising operations; brushes for wire and wire rod cleaning; integrated solutions, both chemical and mechanical, for wire and wire rod cleaning; tungsten carbide die regrinding services by Koner East in Macedonia; and polycrystalline diamond die regrinding services by Koner in Italy. TKT Group www.tktgroup.it 11 J06 Tramev is both a supplier of new standard or special accessories and a partner for the solution of technical problems for metal wire, wire rope and wire derivatives manufacturers. With light and portable tools from the company’s shears division, cutting, bending and straightening are easy operations. The Tramev shears line offers a full range of portable tools for cutting, straightening or bending of metal wire, allowing a fast and effective solution to problems related to wire, cable, strand and bolts and nuts. The company states that shears for wire and cable are its most successful Tramev Srl

09 C06 An average electric car contains around 80kg of copper in various forms. As demand for electric vehicles (EVs) powered by electricity grows, so does the need for quality copper products. As a supplier of upward continuous casting technologies, Upcast offers solutions for this demand. The coils used in EVs, especially the motors, each have numerous hairpin windings that are connected to each other in a process similar to welding. This structure sets the standard for the high electrical conductivity copper being used, as it needs to have extremely good surface quality and high mechanical strength, while being highly weldable. Upcast copper rod is oxygen free, making its weldability superior to ETP copper products. Copper is also prominently used in wire harnesses, the demands for which are getting stricter as more electronics are installed into the vehicles. Wires must withstand mechanical stress and temperature changes. Upcast units provide copper-magnesium and other alloys that can be processed into a cable that is durable, flexible and thin, minimising its weight contribution to the vehicle. Upcast units can also use recycled copper, and melting is performed purely with electricity, which can come from renewable sources. Upcast Oy www.upcast.com Videx Machine Engineering Ltd 16 J61 Videx, celebrating its 50 th anniversary, is announcing its full plan for factory automation and remote service. The company has tripled its engineering staff since the last edition of wire, and doubled its yearly machinery production. Six design engineers will attend wire 2024, to meet customers and listen to their requirements. Screens on the stand will show demonstrations of the three major Videx lines in operation. New computerised models, expected by the end of the year, will enable machine operation by less experienced operators. Videx will show new products and videos of hot forging lines from bars/ coils; B7 and weld stud lines; dual and
