First vegan certification of dry drawing lubricants

Traxit Wire Lubrication, a brand of Klüber Lubrication GmbH, has announced that it is the first company in the world to receive vegan certification for dry drawing lubricants. A selection of the company’s products have been certified by the British organisation The Vegan Society. This allows Traxit, as a drawing agent manufacturer and upstream supplier for spring production, to support its customers in two areas: achieving sustainability and ethical goals; and opening new business areas, especially in the production of vegan mattresses and upholstered furniture. The Vegan Society has been carrying out certifications since 1990, with the aim of improving the transparency of vegan products. More than 65,000 certified products are available worldwide, from the areas of food, cosmetics, clothing and many others. The trademark gives customers security and companies the opportunity to differentiate themselves from the competition. the importance of the issues of sustainability and ethics for companies. The focus of vegan products in the private sphere is on food, clothing and cosmetics. Vegan products do not contain any animal ingredients or components. Important reasons for this are the avoidance of animal suffering and the improvement of personal health. The use of vegan products in production is much debated in the furniture industry. Mattress manufacturers are HFFR grades Nabaltec’s Apyral® products are used for wire and cable applications. The fine precipitated grades Apyral 40CD and 60CD are halogen-free flame retardants that can be applied in insulation and sheathing compounds to produce halogen-free flame-retarded (HFFR) cables. The company’s white Apyral powders are non-toxic, environmentally friendly and have good processability. The use of Apyral products can help strict fire safety regulations to be met. Nabaltec offers Apyral 40CD from both its Nashtec US plant and its German production site. The certification emphasises

already taking a different approach, with many offering vegan mattresses made from materials such as natural latex, hemp and coconut. A few mattresses are available on the market with a wire spring core. One challenge in production has been the fact that although there is a strong trend towards the use of plant based products in current wire drawing materials, they do not yet have a proven 100 per cent vegan basis. Traxit Wire Lubrication realised the development and test phase in partnership with a household spring manufacturer. The certification carried out by The Vegan Society fulfilled the following requirements: • No animal ingredients in the drawing materials • No animal testing • Potential cross-contamination with animal-derived ingredients must be avoided as far as possible Traxit Wire Lubrication www.traxit.com The Vegan Society www.vegansociety.com including 40VS, are available from Naprotec LLC, The company’s newest US plant. Depending on the requirements, the right surface treatment product can help optimise compound properties. Nabaltec also offers the mineral-based flame-retardant booster Actilox® PA B2, which can be easily combined with Apyral to meet stringent flame retardancy requirements. Actilox PA-B2 also acts as a process aid by reducing the pressure build-up during compounding and extrusion while not negatively influencing other compound properties. Nabaltec AG www.nabaltec.com
