Cold drawn tube production and finishing lines

AROUND 30 years ago Mair Research manufactured and commissioned its first automatic integrated finishing line for DOM cold drawn tubes. At the time the customer had a pointing machine, cold draw bench and straightener. Mair Research’s task was to integrate this existing equipment with new downstream finishing equipment consisting of multi- cut saws to include final tube lengths, chamfering, visual inspection, NDT interfacing, packaging and strapping of finished tubes in bundles. In the last ten years Mair Research has designed and manufactured its own cold draw benches, straighteners and pointing machines, all with technical features such as high productivity and reliability; customised line manufactured according to the customer’s needs; user friendly equipment with quick adjustments for settings and size changeovers; and the possibility to employ tubes with some straightness deviation. Every machine, and every line, can be implemented to comply with Industry 4.0; the entire work cycle and production process can also be interfaced with the customer’s MES system. In the last two years Mair Research has commissioned three complete integrated cold draw bench and finishing lines, of which two are located in Europe and one in Mexico. The features of these lines include tubes that are drawn from special steel grades of up to 80mm diameter used for the production of shock absorbers and other automotive products; the cold draw bench is a three tube pull with

40-ton capacity; drawn tubes are processed by the finishing equipment, which is fully integrated to achieve one seamless line; and the end product is put in a bundle ready for dispatch. All of the above equipment has been fully designed and manufactured by Mair Research at its plant located in Schio, Italy. Before dispatch the equipment goes through careful in-house testing in the presence of the final customer. Since all operations are performed automatically, a limited number of operators are sufficient to control the operation of the line, providing a safe working environment. Mair Research specialises in the design, manufacture and supply of finishing lines (automotive, OCTG, cold drawn DOM) and has delivered these to worldwide producers in the field of ERW and seamless tubes over the past 30 years. The company will be present at FABTECH 2019 in Chicago at Booth D46579 from 11 to 14 November. Mair Research SpA – Italy Email: salesdept@mair-research.com Website: www.mair-research.com
