delivers cooling beds with final controlled temperatures. This advancement can eliminate the need to reheat the tube or pipe for in-line varnish coating. Knowledge and experience in controls are at the heart of a successful line. Ajax Tocco Magnethermic ® has the extensive in-house programming capabilities required to correctly design each line for each installation and product mix. Speed control is essential to the process, considering that each tube or pipe must remain butted to the adjacent tube or pipe through the heating and quenching sections of the line. In the austenitise heating line, the pipe must speed up upon entry to butt against the leading pipe. Since austenitise heating is typically accomplished at elevated temperatures of 1,650-1,850°F, the pipe’s plasticity is increased, making it more pliable and subject to distortion. The linking of these two pipes on the in-feed side must be carefully controlled, ensuring the force does not impact or push the line of pipes, which could cause distortion. With the heat expansion changes and rapid cooling,

expertise and experience are required to achieve the desired results. Ajax Tocco’s experienced engineers and state-of-the-art controls are critical to the success of these lines. Ajax Tocco Magnethermic ® , a sub- sidiary of Park-Ohio Holdings Corp ® , designs and manufactures induction heating and melting equipment for various industries and applications throughout the world.

In addition, the company provides a range of services including laboratory process development, preventive maintenance, equipment repair, parts, coil repair facilities and installation services through its locations in North America, South America, Europe and Asia.

Fives expands offer in coil processing FIVES, a global industrial engineering group headquartered in France, has acquired certain activities of RDI-Met (Spain), a subsidiary of Fagor Arrasate, one of the largest players in the steel and aluminium processing and metal stamping industries. The acquired activities and know- how include cold rolling mills and strip processing lines for the steel and aluminium industries.

terminal equipment for strip processing lines, colour coating lines, and degreasing and pickling equipment. The core of the RDI-Met team will be integrated into Fives’ steel subsidiary in Spain, which specialises in a range of heat treatment technologies for steel products, including the final treatment of coated coils. Guillaume Mehlman, president of the Fives steel and glass division, commented, “The new acquisition will strengthen our engineering capabilities and expertise, broaden a range of solutions for steelmakers, and increase our commercial presence in Europe and South America.”

They will complement Fives’ activities in the mechanical engineering and supply of processing lines with certain specific
