Pulsed DC TIG/MMA receives design award THE Red Dot Award has been an international seal of outstanding industrial design quality since 1955. ESAB Welding & Cutting Products’ Renegade™ ET 300iP DC TIG/MMA inverter has received the Red Dot Award for product design in the Industrial Equipment, Machinery and Automation category. 300iP weighs 17 kg and measures 460 x 200 x 320mm. It runs 300 amps at 40 per cent duty cycle with mains and welding cables up to 100m and has multi-voltage capabilities. It connects to 230 V one-phase power and 230 V to 480 V three-phase power (both ±10 per cent), with auto-sensing functionality and no rewiring required.

The multi-handle design and integrat- ed cable management system make it easy to carry, and the composite hous- ing can withstand extreme impact and drops. The handles are constructed and positioned to protect connectors and the panel from rough welding environments. Renegade can weld with MMA electrodes up to 6mm and has gouging capabilities with carbons up to 4.8mm diameter. As a next-generation inverter, Renegade’s MMA performance is enhanced by built-in intelligence.

Renegade’s innovations can be summarised as portability, power and performance.” For the 2018 Red Dot Awards, designers and manufacturers from 59 countries submitted more than

6,300 objects to the competition. A jury comprising around 40 members assessed the products individually; the strict judging criteria, which include level of innovation, functionality, formal quality, ergonomics and durability, provide a frame of reference that the jurors then complement with their own expertise.
