The November Issue Welcome to the latest issue of
November/December 2021 Vol 34 No 6
Tube & Pipe Technology magazine. This issue we have four in-depth articles from some of the leading experts in the industry, including regular writers Luca Ferraguti, product manager, Fives OTO SpA;
Rory McBride – Editor in chief
Michael Fletcher, PhD Metallurgy, Delta Consultants on behalf of HFT; and Barry Rust, marketing manager energy & sustainability, Tata Steel. Reading the features, which cover diverse areas such as fibre laser flying orbital cut-offs and the monitoring of weld purge gases, I was struck by what a fundamental part the tube products and tube and pipe machinery that are discussed play in our everyday lives. In the Danfoss Power Solutions article, for example, written by Gabriella Paranyi, EMEA marketing communication manager at the company, she discusses how the design engineer must think about the potential for a hydraulic tube- fitting system to retain its functionality even after a torpedo strike when used in defence applications. When someone describes an engineering product as leak free, we all take it for granted, but it really can be a matter of life or death. The Tata Steel article is also fascinating in that it offers such an inspiring philosophy. During the recent disruption around the world, caused mainly by Covid-19, the company has seized the opportunity to refine and improve many of its processes and also to research areas of improvement that it usually would not have time to look at in such depth. It has offered a golden opportunity to think about product development, leading to a number of exciting innovations that will be of great assistance to its customers.
