EuroWire July 2023

Review

Windak Inc (www.windakgroup.com) took the opportunity to showcase its technologies, including a six-axis robot solution, the Windak Xtreme biodegradable stretch wrap, and the Windak Remote Service Support kit. The six-axis Robot De-Palletizing so lution offers precision, efficiency and flexibility in wire and cable packaging. With advanced automation capabili ties, it enables seamless integration into existing production lines to optimise productivity. The increasing importance of sus- tainability in packaging solutions has led to the introduction of Windak’s Xtreme biodegradable stretch wrap, which provides load stability and protection while contributing to a reduction in environmental impact.

The event provided good opportunities for British company PWM Ltd (Pressure Welding Machines – https:// coldpressurewelding.com) to showcase its range of cold welding machines and dies. According to managing director Steve Mepsted, “The mood at the show was upbeat, everybody seemed full of confidence and visitor quality was good with plenty of decision-makers in evidence. “The cable market is very buoyant at present and our energy-efficient machines can be equipped with custom-made dies for welding trapezoidal and z-wire profile used in the build-up of subsea cable. Our EP500 and HP100 machines in particular attracted the interest of manufacturers looking for green welding solutions. We are now following up a number of solid leads from the show.” PWM’s machines were presented by Joe Snee Associates Inc, its exclusive distributor of equipment, spares and dies in the USA and Canada. Swedish wire machinery manufacturer Lämneå Bruk AB (www.lamnea.se) used the show to explain its No Twist Coiler technology. Although days two and three were a little slower than expected, with fewer visitors from the welding wire industry, the Lämneå Bruk team, including Jonas Hagstedt, John Lindh and Stefan Petersson, expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the event. The No Twist Coiler technology, which produces twist-free and straight wire in packages of up to 4.5 tons in inverted carriers, gained attention at the event. The technology allows the use of every metre of wire and practically eliminates scrap. The larger wire package allows for fewer stops during uncoiling and offers convenient shipping options. When used as a payoff, the inverted carrier system decreases general power consumption.

“Clearly, the wire and cable manufacturers were at the meeting point this year and expressed their interest in our machinery. We also would like to thank all our customers who showed a strong interest for Bow Technology and the services proposed by C2S (upgrades, spares parts, etc).” CERSA-MCI (www.cersa-mci.com) said that many visitors brought wire samples to the show, and that the star of its booth was the SQM instrument, which offers high-resolution and real-time detection of surface defects such as scratches, die marks, impurities, bubbles or particles on the insulation. The SQM works on round product (20 to 2,000µm) and metallic surfaces. The company’s engineers are working on an off-line solution that will use the SQM F’s out-of-the-box capabilities to display the surface image of wire/cable/tube samples, taking less than 30 seconds to analyse a sample over 360° and detect any defect, shape disturbances, scratches and blisters. CERSA-MCI designs and manufactures measuring devices for fine wires, cables and optical fibres. Its sensors are used both on- and off-line for non-contact measurement applications. Controle Mesure Systemes (CMS – www. cmseddyscan.com) designs and develops advanced ultrasonic and eddy current testing solutions. Its non-destructive testing (NDT) systems are used for the inspection of finished and semi-finished products including tubes, wires, bars, billets and plates.

Windak’s Remote Service Support kit provides prompt assistance to customers in North and South America, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum productivity. The company’s team of experts are just a click away, ready to remotely diagnose and troubleshoot any issues. After the cancellation of Interwire in 2021, SETIC (www.setic-pourtier.com), Pourtier, C2S and their US branch Gauder Group Inc were eager to participate this year. The companies report that the event was a success, and that face-to-face meetings were much needed. “Interwire remains a good opportunity to feel the market and to have expert conversations, combined with such pleasant moments,” said a spokesperson.
