The newest edition to IST’s fatigue testing
machine range is the spring fatigue
testing machine 3 (SFT3). UK open
training courses in spring technology
are being held twice during 2012, and
in-house courses tailored to individual
customer needs can also be organised.
IST o ers all companies involved in the
spring industry supply chain a wide
range of specialist technical services, all
aspects of research and development,
training, problem solving and testing
from within the UKAS/NQA accredited
technical centre, with ISO 17025 and ISO
9001 approvals. Services also include
telephone technical and information
helpline, shot peening and consumables,
testing machines and failure analysis.

Below the line, inline drawing of wire to
required form and strength in most cases
leaves the customer better o . Stock
is tightened, more exibility achieved,
added value drawn and tooling time
is reduced. Remnants of semi- nished
products are no further issue. All this
becomes possible with wire-drawing
machines produced by Jankowski GmbH.
Over the last four years, at Jankowski
GmbH+Co KG, the number of clients also
taking up wire drawing has increased
to 50 per cent. It becomes ever more
apparent that the drawing of wire o ers
much more potential for savings than
purchasing does.
The mere purchase price of carbon steel
wire rod up to a diameter of 5.5mm is
25 per cent lower than cold-drawn
annealed cold-drawn wire. In the case
of stainless steel, this di erence even
amounts to 40 per cent. Additionally,
strength and formability of the wire can
be in uenced by wire drawing, allowing
diversity of material grades to be reduced
e ectively. Moreover, the number of
di erent dimensions to be stocked will
be less.
The complete diameter range from
0.5mm to 1mm – in particular cases even
up to 1.5mm – can be covered by one
single wire. Presently, by double-drawing,
wire rods with 5.5mm diameter can
be reduced down to 3.5mm, while
reductions up to 43 per cent can be
achieved in one single draw.
