The PR powder receivers are available in five sizes, ranging in volume from 4 to 85 liters, and accommodate line sizes of up to 4" outside diameter. Doug Brewster, Conair Conveying product manager, explained: “Conventional loaders, which rely on screens to separate material from conveying air, work very well with virgin pellets, but when powdered material is being transported, screens can become laden with accumulated dust, decreasing the performance of the conveying system. The same thing can happen with dusty regrind and, as plastics processors attempt to use more reclaimed material – either for environmental or economic reasons – the issue becomes more acute. “The new powder receivers and motor loaders were developed for these applications.” Amphenol Industrial Products group is offering a high vibration brush terminal series designed to withstand harsh environments. An electrical connection with 14 to 70 points of contact per mated pair is made by intermeshing two small wire bundles. The brush-like terminal technology comprises multiple strands of high tensile strength wire bundled together on each side of the contact and hooded for protection. Machine sizes range from 1,250mm to 5,000mm (48" to 195") with the greatest concentration within the 1,800mm to 2,500mm (70" to 98") size range. Each is available with a standard controls platform. For international projects, machines are equipped with a Siemens AC drive, PLC and HMI with a Mitsubishi servo drive. Technology is available as stand-alone (running in torque control) with a dancer, or with an accumulator. Davis-Standard’s caterpillar capstan options and HPE extruder are also popular, with multi-pass, linear and belt wrap capstans available for a range of wire and cable applications. Its advantages for the wire and cable industry are said to include increased torque capacity for high viscosity resins and custom options. Two new powder-conveying units from the Conair Group are designed for handling PVC and other powders down to 1 micron in size, as well as dusty regrind. Available in a PR (powder receiver) model, for use in central vacuum systems, or a self-contained PMmodel with integral vacuummotor, both are said to offer excellent conveying and filtration rates.
