data links perform consistently and reliably from link-to-link. During manufacture of its housedoptical transmitters(Tx)andreceivers (Rx), the company powers each active element and tunes the performance of the device to ensure that the electro-optical characteristics of each and every device fall within a customer-specific performance window. When manufacturing the corresponding optical fiber cableassembly, thecompany’s production techniques can ensure a high level of consistency of link attenuation, matched to the Tx/Rx performancewindow, so each link will function, regardless of how the transmitters, receivers and cables are paired. “Most manufacturers of optical fiber cables don’t touch the transmitter/receiver part of the link – similarly, few Tx/Rx providers produce fiber cable assemblies. Most customers don’t want to get involved in either area; they simply have an electrical signal at point A and want to procure a link that will convert it to an optical signal, transmit it, and convert it back to an electrical signal at point B safely, reliably and consistently,” explained William Heath, OMC’s commercial director.
gyroscope (FOG) modules, expanding the company’s EMP FOG platform with the latest, navigational grade, fiber optic gyro technology. The EMP-3, EMP-4 and EMP-7 augment Emcore’s FOG product line between the tactical grade EMP-1 and the navigational grade EMP-1.2K. These latest models feature performance specifications for medium accuracy platform stabilization applications such as camera systems used in aircrafts and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), as well as a variety of other guidance, navigation and aeronautics applications. Emcore’s latest EMP-3, 4 and 7 FOGmodules operate over a wide distance range with a typical bias drift from 0.2 degrees per hour for the EMP-3, to 0.005 for the EMP-7. Bias drift is an important indicator of accuracy and precision of the FOG, with lower bias models delivering higher performance overall. Like all Emcore FOG modules, the EMP-3, EMP-4 and EMP-7 feature advanced integrated optics and closed-loop digital signal processing (DSP) electronics todeliver higher accuracy, lower noise, greater efficiency, improveddrift stability andhigher linearity than competing technologies. Emcore develops most of the key FOG components internally including the optical transceiver and the lithium-niobate modulator. Like the original EMP-1 and EMP-1.2K modules, the EMP-3, 4 and 7 are
