Furukawa Electric Group is to construct an optic fiber cables production plant in Palmira, Valle del Cauca, Colombia. Pre-operational activities were expected to begin during August, and for the plant to be in production in February 2014. The plant will be the first of its kind in the region, but will be the third Furukawa telecommunications plant in South America. Furukawa has been selling structured cabling in Colombia for five years.
