Dubai's airport has just become the first airport in the world to have been equipped with a complete LED airfield lighting system. The impressive project included fitting 1,300km of cable and 8,200 LED lights in just 80 days – while the airport remained operational throughout. What makes this even more impressive is that the airport has recently overtaken Heathrow, London, UK, as the busiest airport in the world, catering for 70.4 million passengers throughout 2014. The full story can be found on page 9. Living up to its name is Apple. The company is investing $848m for a solar photovoltaic plant to power the majority of its sites in California. Built on a 1,300-acre site in Monterey County, the plant will provide enough power to supply its headquarters in Cupertino, its data center in Newark, all Apple offices and 52 stores.
