Intel Corporation has given certification to Sumitomo Electric Industries Ltd for its thin Thunderbolt cable. Mass production of the cable began in May. Based on Intel’s Thunderbolt technology, Sumitomo Electric has developed thin cables, reducinga4.2mmdiameter to3.2mmwithout sacrificing performance. The thin Thunderbolt cable will be available in lengths of 0.3m, 0.5m, 1m and 2m, and in black or white. The new range will be added to the existing 15 products (12metal and three optical cables). The thin Thunderbolt cables have an approximately 25 percent smaller outer diameter. Transmission data rates will not to be compromised by the construction, and high-speed 10Gbps standards are maintained.
