Modernization and growth are at the forefront of Southwire’s plans as it starts work on a $46m extension to its manufacturing campus in Bremen, Indiana. The company expects the expansion, to be completed by early next year, to create a further 115 jobs over the next three years at the site. “With this expansion we will now have more capacity in Bremen to support our OEM customer base, enhance our Southwire SPEED services, and better serve the commercial, institutional, factory automation, electric vehicles and telecom markets,” said David Skinner, vice president of manufacturing. Another new fiber cable will be spanning the Atlantic, with Google announcing the ‘Grace Hopper’ cable connecting New York with Bude in the UK and Bilbao in Spain. The cable will consist of no fewer than 16 fiber pairs and will be constructed by SubCom. Named after Grace Brewster Murray Hopper, a major figure in early computer science and a long-serving US Navy officer, the cable is expected to be operational in 2022.
