Atlantic-hopping cable

Google has announced another new subseacableproject: the “GraceHopper” cable will cross the Atlantic to connect New York with the UK and Spain.

The cable is named after Grace Brewster Murray Hopper, a major figure in early computer science and a long-serving officer of the US Navy. Hopper played a role among the first compilers as well as in the development of COBOL.

European landingswill be inBudeandBilbao, but theUS landings are yet tobeconfirmed.

The target date for the Grace Hopper cable is 2022.

Thecablewill consistof no fewer than16fiber pairs and will be constructed by SubCom.
