Getting around to a rounder cable

Southwire Company LLC plans to boost its cable production and quality by using the Maillefer Round Premium package. The system will be installed into an existing line later this year, making Southwire the first North American company to use the technology. Southwire expects to be able to produce rounder cables up to 6 inches (152mm) in diameter, weighing up to 25lb per foot, and at production speeds faster than was previously possible. Southwire

will also reduce material usage, which is significant due to the many plastic layers extruded over the conductor for safety and durability. Southwire’s high voltage power cable is engineered to run underground over long distances. Due to the trend away from bare conductors and overhead transmission lines, demand for this type of cable has increased dramatically.
