Ship to shore power The igus e-loop energy supply series has been expanded to suit static applications, including shore power supplies. Shore power offers the provision of electrical power to a ship at berth so that its main and auxiliary engines can be shut down. New copper-fiber hybrid cables are designed to reduce installation time by using only a single cable to transmit data and power across long distances, for applications such as passive optical networks (PON) and distributed antenna systems (DAS). The cables can be used in remote locations where standard power is either unavailable or too costly, or where power over ethernet (PoE) cannot reach. Belden’s 14 AWG digital electricity cable can deliver power to applications that, due to distance limitations, are unsupported by PoE and remote DC powering.
