Upgrade completed in “record time”

Vattenfall and Eurofiber have formed a joint venture to provide fiber connectivity across Berlin, Germany. The companies will work together on the construction and operation of the fiber optic infrastructure to connect over 500,000 households and businesses to the super-fast fiber optic network, initially in the center of the city. The network will also provide digital infrastructure for 5G and IoT connectivity, and will be accessible to all broadband operators in an open access and non- discriminatory manner.

A new process automation and control system at the Al Ezz Dekheila Steel Company (EZDK) wire rod mill in Alexandria, Egypt, is said to have delivered improved productivity and system diagnostics, with increased uptime. EZDK approved the completion of a full ABB modernization at the facility after commissioning to achieve rated speed and optimum productivity for all rolled sizes was finalized in a record two weeks. Legacy ABB automation andcontrol systems were completely overhauled, together with engineering, designandfabricationofanew level-1 automation technologies solution, based on the latest ABB Ability™ System 800xA, and other networking systems and drives. ABB also commissioned DSC800-R01/ R02 rebuild kits and a DSC800-R00 upgrade kit for 19 DC stands drives, and provided the latest ACS880 drives for the mill’s Stelmore conveyor application. “We were very impressed by the technical expertise and execution skills that the ABB Metals team displayed throughout this project, and we are already experiencing efficiency improvements thanks to this investment,” said Abd El-Moneim Sewaif, director for EZDK’s long steel division.
