New plant ahead of schedule

LS Cable & System has agreed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for a technical partnership with Korea Electrical Safety Corporation in offshore wind power projects. The two companies will cooperate to standardize the pre-operation inspection of offshore wind farms and to secure safety standards for submarine cables. Kim Hyeong-won, executive director of the LS C&S energy business division, said: “According to the Green New Deal policy, offshore wind power generation is expected to be invigorated, but Korea does not yet have any rules on the use and safety of submarine cables. South Korean automotive components manufacturer Kyungshin Cable is expecting to start operations at its new factory in Serbia’s Smederevska Palanka several months ahead of schedule. Production could begin in late February or early March 2021, the company said. Kyungshin Cable Europe is aiming to supply environment-friendly automotive components, mainly cable sets to vehicle manufacturers such as Hyundai, Kia, Volkswagen, Ford, Volvo and BMW, and to serve Korean battery suppliers.
