Plant closure

A spokesperson told the paper that 3M’s New Ulm facility will take over production, and may add a number of jobs as it absorbs the extra work. The closure follows 3M’s move last winter to sell its fiber and copper cabling manufacturing business to Corning Inc for $900 million.

Community Impact newspaper reported 3M’s move and announced the plan to close the smaller of two Austin facilities by the end of 2019. The plant employs 120 workers, producing copper and fiber connectivity products for the utility sector.
