70 years of wire and cable

Southwire celebrated its 70 th anniversary on 23 March 2020. The company, founded in 1950 by Roy Richards Sr, began making wire and cable with just 12 employees and three machines and has grown to 7,500 employees in over 40 US cities and seven countries around the world. Mr Richards’ original idea was to take electric light to his grandmother’s home in Carroll County, Georgia, but, over the next two years , Southwire shipped five million pounds of wire and cable and doubled its plant size. To this day, Southwire remains

family-owned through the ownership of Roy’s children and grandchildren.

In a press release to mark the milestone, the company said: “Today is a day of celebration for seven decades of Southwire, but, more importantly, it is a day that we can express our gratitude to everyone who has helped our company grow. So, thank you – to our customers, partners , employees and more. You are the ones to whom we owe our success, and today, a deep and genuine message of gratitude goes out to all of you.”
