One of the largest investments in the state of Kentucky has been announced, with steel producer Nucor Corporation spending $1.35 billion to build a steel plate mill at Brandenburg in Meade County. Governor Matt Bevin said the move, which will create around 400 jobs, ranks among the state’s largest ever single investments. The build means that the North Carolina- based company is currently investing more than $2 billion in its Kentucky operations. The full story can be found on page 11. Expansion is also on the horizon for First Quantum Minerals, which has laid out its plans to grow its Cobre Panama copper development project by 15 million tonnes per year at a cost of some $327 million. It involves the development of the Colina pit at the site, and the addition of a ninth mill, expandedminingequipment fleet, additional conveyors, an in-pit crusher and other infrastructure related to accessing Colina.
