Taking care of cables Global Marine group company CWind has launched a new service for owners of power cables. The company’s complete cable care package aims to reduce the time needed to respond to, and repair, damaged wires, with plans to introduce additional supporting services later in 2018. The company has added the ASV Pioneer multi-purpose barge to its fleet to support the cable care service. The barge, capable of operating from breach out to depths of 50m, includes a range of cable repair equipment, such as storage carousels. The ASV Pioneer will be based at CWind’s offshore hub in Blyth in the northeast of England.

Compact orders Bar Products & Services Ltd has supplied three wire strand compaction units to companies in Turkey and Austria, with orders for a further three. The strand compaction unit has been developed for ease of installation and operation, with short set-up times, quick- change rollers, and rapid repair of any stranding problem for minimum production downtime.

The strand compaction units are available for 2mm to 40mm strand diameters. It is possible to apply compaction to a range of strand constructions with compaction levels between 5 percent and 25 percent, depending upon the construction and tensile grade of the wires.
