nation leads the world in energy production and innovation.”

US Secretary of Energy, Rick Perry, has announced grants of up to $105.5 million for the continued development of solar technology. The department’s solar energy technologies office plans to fund 70 projects to advance both solar photovoltaic and concentrating solar thermal power technologies, as well as the means to integrate them into the nation’s electricity grid. “American ingenuity is the engine of our energy economy,” said Secretary Perry. “Investing in all of our abundant energy sources, including solar technologies, will help to drive down costs and ensure that the

The funding program will focus on four areas: advanced solar systems integration technologies that enable the seamless coupling of solar energy into a reliable energy grid; concentrating solar power research and development enabling the solar industry to reach the DOE’s 2030 levelized cost of electricity targets; photovoltaic research and development to increase performance, reduce materials and improve reliability; and workforce initiatives to prepare the solar industry for a digital future, while also increasing the number of veterans and participants in the solar industry.
