The Coronavirus outbreak has led to Messe Düsseldorf postponing the largest of its wire exhibitions – wire 2020 in Düsseldorf, Germany – which was due to start at the end of the month. The week-long exhibition, long known as the leading international show in our industry, was put on hold after concerns for the safety of both exhibitors and visitors alike (see page 9 for full details). Nucor Steel has struck the first EAF arc on its new MIDA plant in Sedalia, Missouri, and produced its first bundles of rebar for shipment. With a 380,000-ton capacity in straight and spooled bars for rebar (12.7mm to 35.8mm), the minimill is designed for energy-saving and environmentally friendly melting, casting and rolling. The Sedalia minimill is the tenth Danieli minimill with endless casting-rolling ECT technology for long products in operation worldwide. Turn to page 15 for the full story.
