Acquisition could spark a surge in connections

German fiber network builder Deutsche Glasfaser has been acquired by investment companies EQT andOmers in adeal valued at $3 billion. The companies have pledged to invest over $7.6 billion in the rollout of high speed broadband infrastructure in Germany following the takeover. An official statement on the deal, published by EQT, says Deutsche Glasfaser will be combined with inexio, another broadband infrastructure business that it owns which provides Internet access to 300,000

households and 6,000 businesses. It expects the tie-up to result in cost savings and allow it to speed up the fiber rollout in rural areas of Germany. Omers said its partnership with EQT would help to support “ambitious growth plans by Deutsche Glasfaser and inexio”. Deutsche Glasfaser has a contract with Deutsche Telekom, to use Glasfaser’s fiber network in the city of Lüdinghausen. The companies expect the acquisition transaction to close in the second quarter of 2020.
