TenneT has contracted an international group of cable suppliers to develop a new 2GW 525kV high voltage direct current (HVDC) extruded submarine cable connection to serve offshore wind projects off the Dutch and German coasts. The participating suppliers are Hellenic Cables, based in Greece; LS Cable & System, in South Korea; Nexans, in Norway; Sweden-based NKT HV Cables; Prysmian, in Italy; Japan-based Sumitomo Electric Industries; and the Chinese suppliers Ningbo Orient Wires & Cables and Zhongtian Technology Submarine Cable (ZTT). TenneT believes that using 525kV HVDC technology will reduce the costs and minimize spatial impact of the cable system, which will be deployed in early 2022.

thyssenkrupp has approved an extensive restructuring plan for its springs and stabilizers division. Under the plan, production of stabilizers at the Olpe, Germany site will end by late 2021. The company’s Hagen site will be realigned and converted into a center of excellence for the development and manufacture of springs and stabilizers. The springs and stabilizers business currently operates nine production sites in Germany, Hungary, Brazil, Mexico and China, and employs around 3,400 people worldwide. The business unit has suffered fromdeclining prices for springs and stabilizers and global over-capacities in the sector. The restructuring of the German sites is seen as an important step to restoring the division’s competitiveness.
