Sumitomo Electric Industries has completed the construction of Japan’s largest wind farm, Wind Farm Tsugaru, on behalf of Kajima Corporation. After two and a half years in construction the 121,600kW wind farm is now in commercial operation. Sumitomo Electric was responsible for the design, manufacture and installation of electrical equipment, such as the underground power transmission, distribution lines and substation equipment, working jointly with Nissin Electric Co and Sumitomo Densetsu Co. The Sumitomo Electric Group contributed to the optimization of equipment design by selecting the most efficient transmission voltage, determining appropriate equipment specifications through system analysis for addressing high harmonics and over-voltage issues, and conducting route surveys for underground pipes. The group also installed a 34km ultra-high voltage (154kV) power transmission line.
