Confirming plant power

Gerdau Long Steel North America has confirmed a 20-year power purchase agreement with solar energy provider 174 Power Global. The agreement is coupled with a planned 80MW solar power facility to be built alongside Gerdau Midlothian in Midlothian, Texas.

“Gerdau has a culture of sustainability,” says Gerdau Long Steel North America president ChiaYuanWang. “Theproducts from our Midlothian facility are already made from 100% recycled scrap metal. Developing and utilizing green energy is an innovative way to further enhance our environmental contributions.” Construction is scheduled to begin before the end of 2020, with a projected completion date near the end of 2021.

The project will comprise 231,000 solar panels across 700 acres.
