Google’s expansion plans continue at a pace after it launched its new data center facility in the Science Park at Canelones, Uruguay. Earlier in the year, the company announced a $13 billion investment plan for data centers across the US, giving the company a presence in 24 states in total, 13 of which are with data centers. You can find the full story on page 9. 5G is on the agenda at Corning, which has recently had a 5G ultra-wide band service installed by Verizon at its site in Hickory, North Carolina. Corning is using the technology to test how 5G can enhance functions such as factory automation and quality control at its fiber optic cable manufacturing site. Turn to page 13. Click on through to page 14 to read how Tesla’s first car factory in China has been officially connected to the country’s power grid. The move will increase power supply to the site to a level required for preliminary production. State Grid will eventually increase the supply eight times to allow the factory to run at full capacity.
