Texas power purchases

Fast-food chain McDonald’s Corporation has entered into a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Aviator Wind West, part of the 525MW Aviator Wind project currently under development by Apex Clean Energy in Coke County, Texas. Under the terms of the contract, McDonald’s first for wind energy, the chain will buy electricity equivalent to the annual consumption of the company’s 1,300 restaurants as part of a wider plan to reduce the corporation’s greenhouse gas emissions by 36 percent before 2030.

Once completed, Aviator Wind will be the largest single-phase project for the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) and the largest single-phase, single-site project in the country. The wind farm is expected to generate some $140 million in tax revenue for the local economy. Facebook previously announced the signing of a 200MWPPA tied to the Aviator Wind East portion of the same complex.
