The ‘busiest bridge in the world’ – the George Washington Bridge in New York, USA – is undergoing major renovations to the tune of some $2 billion. This includes repairing and rebuilding key components of the bridge and its approach roads as part of the ‘Restore the George’ program. And as part of this, WireCo WorldGroup has the contract to supply replacement hangers for the bridge – the second time the company has won contracts for major bridge repairs in New York following on from its involvement with the Manhattan Bridge in 2012. The most significant part of the project is the $1.03 billion replacement of 592 vertical cables, known as suspender ropes, which the company is supplying. Full story on page 9. International Wire Group Inc (IWG), headquartered in Camden, New York, has been acquired by Atlas Holdings LLC. IWG, a designer and manufacturer of copper- based wire products, has some 1,600 employees and 17 manufacturing facilities across North America and Europe. Turn to page 10 for full details.
