Rod production gets underway

Simec’s new minimill is now in full operation in Apizaco, Mexico, and will produce 600,000 tons per year of specialty steel, large round blooms, bars and wire rod for the automotive industry. Supplied as a greenfield project, Simec’s new minimill, in addition to the meltshop and rolling mill, includes fumeandwater treatment plants, an electrical substation and compressed air plant, product quality laboratories, cranes, electricals and automation featuring Danieli Automation Q3-Intelligence architecture. The plant also features a new, four-roll Danieli DSD drawer.
