Reducing cable runs

Molex has launched its hybrid FTTA (fiber to the antenna)-PTTA (power to the antenna) optical cable

Molex has launched its hybrid FTTA (fiber to the antenna)-PTTA (power to the antenna) optical cable for cell phone towers. The hybrid FTTA-PTTA optical cable maximizes tower real estate while keeping installation processes low. Molex hybrid cable assemblies include features such as sealed breakout ends, UV-treatedcables, andan armored hybrid cable to withstand demanding weather conditions and potential interference. Custom configurations are available to support base band unit and multiple remote radio head connections using industry-standard connectors, alleviating extensive cable management requirements. “Because these hybrid cable assemblies combine fiber and power in a single sheathing, it creates amore efficient install

within the cell tower,” said Rob Wheeler, global product manager, Molex. “The ability to reduce the number of cable runs in the tower will create cost benefits such as install/maintenance costs.” Compared to current plug-and-play cable solutions that use multiple cables, Molex users can connect several remote radio units and power-to-signal distribution boxes with one assembly, maximizing tower use by freeing up space for additional equipment.
