Prysmian Group has supplied medium voltage cables for use in the expansion of the dry dock area of the port of Genoa. Around 35km of customized 12/20kV MV cables, some in aluminum and the others consisting of an optical fiber submarine cable with galvanized steel wire armor, wereproduced for theproject by Prysmian’s Pignataro and Merlino plants. The aluminum cables will supply eight transformer cabinets, whilst the submarine cable will provide the 60Hz supply to the cabinet of the ship repair area from the 45FV cabinet. Maurizio Ciantra, trade and installers sales manager, Prysmian Italy, commented: “For Prysmian Italia, this project marked a great result in terms of collaboration between our engineering offices and our production plants. In fact, we workedwith the customer to define the final specifications and requirements of the Prysmian cables.” The port of Genoa is Italy’s largest port, with 22km of docks and a berth draft between 8m and 15m. It can accommodate ships up to 270m long and weighing 100,000 tons.
