ArcelorMittal is set to become the largest long steel producer in Brazil following its acquisition of Votorantim Siderurgia, a deal which has been rubber-stamped by CADE, the Brazilian antitrust regulation agency. The deal will boost the company’s crude steel production from 5.4 million tonnes per year to 5.6 million. Full details can be found on page 10. Brazil is also in the news as the country is to be connected to Florida after a deal linking up FiberLight with Angola Cables, 10,556km Monet cable. Angola operates two fiber optic pairs with the Monet cable system, one transmitting data from Fortaleza, and the other carrying traffic to São Paulo. Read the full story on page 12. It is time for companies to join the best and head to Düsseldorf, Germany, for the staging of wire and Tube 2018. More than 70,000 visitors are expected in the city for the biennial staging of the exhibition.
