Cable barge

UK and Netherlands-based Swan Hunter has provided project management, design engineering and mobilization support for its client Oceanteam Solutions, to deliver a versatile cable storage and transport barge. Swan Hunter’s in-house engineering team designed a fully flexible deck layout that allows project cables to be loaded/off- loaded using four different cable highway routes; this allows transpooling from/

to onshore facilities or cable installation vessels.

The barge is self-sufficient, with tensioners, trackways and over-boarding chutes all repositioned using a standard telehandler. “This design offers an extremely flexible and low-cost solution to cable handling and transportation,” said Swan Hunter director Gerard Kroese.
