Inaugural conference for the industry
A Ghanaian manufacturer of electrical cables, Tropical Cable and Conductors Ltd, has donated assorted electrical cables to the Kumasi central prison. The cables will be used to rewire the prison to end fire outbreaks in the cells. The rewiring exercise of four halls, with 24 cells each, is expected to take a month. Twenty-four other cells at the old and new segregation blocks will also benefit from an improved electricity supply following the rewiring. Thedeputydirector of theprison, Mr Samuel Owusu Amponsah, thanked Tropical Cable and Conductors for the donation, and appealed to other Ghanaians and corporate organizations to help the prison with security lights to further improve its operations. Mr Amponsah, who is the newly appointed regional commander of the Ghana prison service, pledged to make good use of the cables to merit the donation. Ms Salomey Oforiwaa Baah, a sales representative from Tropical Cable and Conductors, said the company was ready to support the prison to ensure that inmates underwent reformation and skills training under favorable conditions.
