It is said that green is good, and that’s bad news for coal – especially in New York.

The New York Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) has adopted regulations that require all power plants to meet strict emissions limits, a move which is likely to see the end of coal-fired power plants by 2020. The DEC is also working on proposed regulations that would restrict emissions from power plants meeting peak demand. This would see a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 40 percent by 2030. Turn to page 22 for the full story. As if to highlight the global reach of our industry, South Korea’s LS Cable and System has held a completion ceremony for its new cable production plant in Dzierzoniow, Poland. The new factory is to produce optical communications cables and parts for electric vehicles. The company now has a total of 19 business operations at home and abroad, with nine of them based overseas, including in Vietnam, China and the USA. See page 33.
