Nucor Corporation has announced a capital investment to add vacuum degassing to the engineered bar capabilities at its bar mill in Darlington, South Carolina, enabling the mill to produce engineered bar products that meet some of the most stringent quality specifications in the industry.

Nucor Steel South Carolina was the first steel mill built by Nucor, producing merchant bar, wire rod, special bar quality and cold headed quality bar. The facility will hold an event in June to celebrate its 50 th anniversary.

The degassing system is expected to begin operations in late 2020.
