Offshore procurement

Massachusetts officialsare recommending that the state doubles its commitment to offshore wind projects. A recent report from the department of energy resources calls for Massachusetts to proceed with an additional procurement of up to 1,600MW in offshore wind capacity. This would be in addition to the 1,600MW of offshore wind power already authorized by Massachusetts under a 2016 renewable

energy law, the largest procurement of offshore wind power by a US state.

The legislature last year authorized the additional procurement pending an analysis of potential economic and environmental benefits. Commissioner Judith Judson said bids for up to 800MW will go out in 2022 and 2024.
