Sizing up nanotube production

Researchers from Swansea University and Rice University have developed a method for growing single-walled carbon nanotubes on newspaper. Carbon nanotubes are the minute molecules with physical properties appropriate for applications such as flexible electronics, conductive films for touchscreen displays, 5G network antennas and fabrics that generate energy.

During the study, the researchers concluded that newspaper offered a stackable 2D surface for growing the nanotubes, but that not all newspaper is suitable. Apparently only newspaper manufactured with sizing produced from kaolin will encourage the growth of the carbon nanotubes.
