DeepOcean has installed the first of two HVAC export cables needed for the UK’s 714MW East Anglia One offshore wind farm. Nexans, the company responsible for the supply of the export cables, gave DeepOcean the contract in January 2017 to carry out the transport and installation work. DeepOcean’s Maersk Connector simultaneously laid and buried the 85km three-core cable using its 7,000-tonne carousel and ACP2 cable plow spread. The project’s offshore substation was installed some 59km from the coast of Lowestoft at the end of August. At present around 60 electrical engineers and technicians are working to complete the installation of the equipment required to commission the substation and to have it ready for the first turbines. The East Anglia One offshore wind project is scheduled to come into operation in 2020.
