Ocean Power Technologies (OPT) has signed a letter of intent to enter into an agreement with energy storage specialist NEC Energy Solutions (NEC ES) for the supply of lithium ion batteries for OPT’s subsea battery solutions. In November 2018, OPT expanded its product line to include solutions providing sea floor energy storage for offshore operations. NEC ES is a designer, manufacturer and integrator of smart

energy storage for the electric grid and for applications with critical power needs. NEC ES has expressed an interest in providing energy storage solutions for remote marine applications. OPT’s subsea battery solutions can power subsea equipment, sensors and communications, and the recharge of autonomous underwater vehicles and electric remotely operated vehicles.
