Underground contract
Africa Energy Indaba
The Taihan Electric Wire Co, a South Korea provider of industrial cables, has won an order to build an underground 500kV ultra-high voltage power cable in the US southwest. Taihan Electric Wire announced that it will install the 53km cable, part of the 830km 500kV Sunzia project linking Arizona and New Mexico, but did not disclose the value of the deal. The Korean company said it has obtained the deal on a turnkey basis from a local joint venture called Sunzia Transmission, established for the project. Under the agreement it will supply the underground cables and related connectors, provide electric grid planning and carry out routing, connecting, and test-running services. It aims to complete the installation by 2020.
