Polyolefin and base chemical supplier Borealis is to acquire a controlling stake in South Korean compounder DYM Solution Co Ltd, subject to regulatory approvals. Based in Cheonan, South Korea, DYM Solution was founded in 1992 and is a provider of compound solutions for the global wire and cable industry. It specializes in semi-conductive, halogen- free flame-retardant rubber and silane cured compounds. Borealis is seeking to extend the global wire and cable asset footprint it has with Borouge. Borealis will build upon its extensive portfolio with complementary products and technologies for semi- conductive, flame retardant, rubber and silane cured compounds. “Having access to an Asian manufacturing base would significantly expand our ability to foster continuing organic growth for Borealis and Borouge, and enable us to meet the requirements of our wire and cable customers even better,” explained Borealis chief executive Alfred Stern.

The Australian state of New South Wales has outlined plans to spend around $1.9 billion to accelerate the development of transmission capacity for wind and solar power. According to Reuters news agency, New South Wales alone has solar and wind projects worth around $19 billion, with a further 20 GW of capacity in the design stage. “For every twenty projects looking to connect, only one can. So we’re going to change that,” saidNewSouthWales energy minister Don Harwin. The state is working with transmission operator Transgrid, owned by a consortium led by Spark Infrastructure group, to speed up planning and feasibility work on four projects. The facilities are needed between 2022 and 2024, to boost connections between New South Wales and its neighboring states of Queensland, Victoria and South Australia.
